Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important representative commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
